Tragedy of Fashion, A, or The Scarlet Scissors.Ballet in one act with choreography by Ashton, libretto by Ashley Dukes, music by Eugene Goossens (arr. Ernest Irving), and designs by Fedorovitch. Premiered 15 June 1926 in the revue Riverside Nights at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, London, with Ashton and Rambert. The ballets tells of a couturier who is so dejected when his dress is rejected by a wealthy customer that he commits suicide by stabbing himself with his dressmaker's shears. It was Ashton's first ballet and was produced by Rambert and her company.
