Plot

Its title a spoof of the popular BBC radio documentary program "A World in Your Ear," the British TV panel show A Word in Your Ear featured two teams of male and female celebrities, competing in five rounds of a "communication" game. The celebs were required to provide running commentaries for short films, while simultaneously memorizing certain facts indigenous to those films for a subsequent question-and-answer session. They also had to match up portions of jumbled still pictures, and explain how these portions related to one another. Add to this the contestants' attempts to provide punch lines to jokes and interpretations to silent charades, and the viewer was able to witness what series creators Gordon Burns (who also hosted) and Geoff Kershaw described as "emotional transference" amongst the celebrity participants. It probably made more sense seen than described, inasmuch as A Word in Your Ear managed to remain on the air from 1992 to 1995. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
