("servile")

1. A town in the territory of Asher allotted to the Levites of the family of Gershon (Josh 21: 30). It is identified with the site called Khirbet 'Abde, about 4 miles (6 km) east of Achzib, which has fortifications from the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as later remains.

2. The son of Hillel from Pirathon in the territory of Ephraim. A minor judge who ruled Israel for eight years, succeeding Elon the Zebulunite. He had 40 sons and 30 grandsons who rode on 70 young donkeys, which indicates that Abdon was a wealthy man. He was buried in his native town.

3. A Benjamite, son of Shashak, a head of family who lived in Jerusalem (I Chr 8:23-28).

4. Another Benjamite, son of Jeiel and Maacah.

5. A son of Micah (or Michaiah); an official of King Josiah's court. See Achbor No. 2.
