Biography

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine refused to carry on if it had "stopped being fun," so it came as little surprise that only moments after the group had split, founding member Les Carter would sprint out to form the good-time guzzling punk band Abdoujaparov. Named after his favorite cyclist, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, Carter's new band shot back to the hedonistic '70s New York school of thought where passion superseded proficiency, but updating it with a dismissal of nihilistic pretension in favor of beer-and-mates revelry. Abdoujaparov also modernized punk's D.I.Y. production ethics: a formation of Carter's own record label avoided pressure from the majors and an Internet shareware distribution system made creation of home-recorded releases affordable and untouched. But the live interaction demanded the most attention. Building up a loyal fan base, the band did small tours of Britain in 1999 and -- a year later -- followed them up with the first full-length EP collection Djamolidin during their global treks through both Australia and America. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide

Abdoujaparov are a punk band formed on October 19, 1998 by ex-Carter USM guitarist Les Carter (aka Fruitbat). Abdoujaparov's musical foundations are the joyous and shambolic influences of 1977 punk rock. The music is raucous and fast but with country elements.

So far four EPs, a single and 2 albums have been released on Spinach Records. A compilation CD featuring tracks from the first 3 EPs was released by Pop Gun in Australia. The band has toured the UK, Germany, Australia and America.

Les and guitarist Richy Crockford have recorded and toured under the name iDou, which consists of the two of them playing guitars over a backing track supplied by an iPod Shuffle.

The band are named after a professional cyclist Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, from Uzbekistan.
