The history of Abellio can be traced back to the creation of Travel London in 2004. After two unsuccessful attempts at breaking into the London bus market, National Express Group bought Connex Bus, an arm of a French transport company. Further expansion in 2005 saw the purchases of the London Bus operations of Tellings-Golden Miller, which came with TGM's depot in Byfleet, operating various Surrey County Council contracts.
Following the acquisitions of the companies, Travel London had a large operating area over Greater London and Surrey. The company operated contracts on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), Surrey County Council, and Kingston University. Operations were split between three registered companies; Travel London Ltd, Travel London (Middlesex) Ltd, and Travel London (West) Ltd. The Surrey routes came under the Travel London (West) division, and were rebranded as Travel Surrey in September 2007.
In May 2009, it was announced that National Express Group had agreed to sell Travel London to the Abellio Group (formerly NedRailways), a subsidiary of NS Dutch Railways, for a price of £32 million. The sale includes 66 bus routes in total, 36 TfL tendered services in London and 30 Surrey County Council and Kingston University routes. All vehicles and premises used were sold, and all staff transferred to the Abellio Group.[2]
After initially saying the name wouldn't change, as all the other National Express bus divisions had rebranded, it was later decided to change the name, because the old names were part of the large and pre-existing National Express brand structure. Therefore, from Friday 30 October 2009, the Abellio London and Abellio Surrey names were launched, coinciding with the company's start of operations on newly won route 407. The Abellio name had been used before the rebranding of NedRailways at their Abellio Germany division, a transport operator in Germany.
The company has six bus garages.
As of October 2009, this garage holds 83 buses, and runs London bus routes 152, 157, 322, 407, 434, 455, 931, P13 and T33.
Opened in early 2000 by Connex Bus to house its recently won route 3 contract. The garage consists of two industrial units; opposite the, now Metrobus "Beddington Farm" depot, which was formerly operated by now defunct Centra London and their predecessor Mitcham Belle buses.

Originally a site acquired by the LCC for its electric trams it was known as Camberwell Tram depot until 1950 when its name was changed to Walworth with the arrival of buses to avoid confusion with Camberwell opposite. A major rebuilding had to be done in the 1950s to repair bomb damage from the 2nd world war in which time some buses were worked out of Camberwell in the late 1960s the garage assumed operation of the Red Arrow routes with MBAs and later LSs until closure in 1985. In 1987, following the closure of Victoria and Ash Grove garages, it operated the Red Arrow routes for a short time until Waterloo garage was ready. During the early 1990s the garage once again re-opened, this time for the Londonlinks operation of routes 78 & 176. The Cowie group undertook a major restructure a few years later which once again saw closure in 1997. The garage is still owned by the Go ahead Group (who own London Central and London General) and they have leased it out. The garage lay dormant for the next six years until late 2003 when work started on refurbishing the garage for the new lessee, The National Express Group, who intended to house new gains in the London area. The garage is now complete and Travel London has rapidly built up its portfolio of routes since the P13 & 381 started in September 2004.
On 19 March 2011, Abellio London gained the contracts for routes 172 and 484, and are now operating them from this garage.

Some journeys on routes 446 and 461 are run with Surrey CC support. Route 441 has some support from BAA Heathrow.
This garage was operated by Tellings-Golden Miller, and came into National Express Group ownership after they bought TGM's London bus operations. It was rebranded as Travel Surrey in September 2007, and uses buses in a livery of white with a red skirt. Its new name under Abellio is Abellio Surrey.
This garage holds 71 buses, and runs London bus routes 117, 235, 290, 481, 490, 969, H20, H25, H26, R68 and R70.
