Abels Moving Services is a removal and storage company with headquarters in Brandon, Suffolk, with facilities in London, Cambridge, Lutterworth covering the whole of the UK. It became the first removals firm to be granted a Royal Warrant in 1989, by appointment to HM the Queen for removals and storage services. As of 2011[update], the company still holds this warrant.
The Grantee of the Warrant, the person responsible for ensuring its proper and correct use, is Philip Pertoldi, the current group managing director. He is a past president of the main UK removals industry trade body, the British Association of Removers (BAR), and past president of the Sandringham Association of Royal Warrant Holders.
Established in Norfolk in the UK in 1958, Abels was initially an offshoot from the Abels family auctioneering business. The firm became known as Abels of Watton, initially only based in the town, but subsequently opening depots in Huntingdon, St Albans, Colchester and Brandon, Suffolk.
In 1991, the Abel family sold the business to Hays plc, and then in 1998 a management buyout returned Abels to independent ownership.
Abels is a shareholder in UniGroup Worldwide UTS and Philip Pertoldi currently sits on the world supervisory board. He is also a former chairman of the UK and Ireland arm of UniGroup Worldwide UTS.
Philip has also held the position of Chairman of the BAR, the British Association of Removers as has other members of Abels Moving Services team.
Holding the FIDI-FAIM-ISO quality standard (one of only 12 others in the UK) which is independently audited by Ernst & Young every 2 years to ensure standards are maintained, upheld and adhered to. The audit encompasses all areas of the business from training, operating, file handling to accounts and sustainability.
As a BAR Overseas Group Member and participant of the International Movers Mutual Insurance IMMI Bond providing an advanced payment guarantee to its private customers with assurance that should this company cease trading, then the move will be completed without further cost.
