Aberdeen Donside is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It will elect one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North East Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

Donside is the successor seat to Aberdeen North.

The other nine constituencies of the North East Scotland region are Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Aberdeenshire East, Aberdeenshire West, Angus North and Mearns, Angus South, Banffshire and Buchan Coast, Dundee City East and Dundee City West.

The region covers the Aberdeenshire council area, the Aberdeen City council area, the Dundee City council area, part of the Angus council area, a small part of the Moray council area and a small part of the Perth and Kinross council area.

The Holyrood constituency is within the Aberdeen City council area, which is currently divided between three North East Scotland constituencies: Aberdeen North, Aberdeen Central and Aberdeen South.

Following their First Periodic review of parliamentary constituencies to the Scottish Parliament, the Boundary Commission for Scotland has created three new constituencies for the Aberdeen City council area. These seats, to be formed in time for the next elections in 2011, are Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, and this constituency.

In forming the new Aberdeen Donside, the electoral wards used are;

Brian Adam (SNP) was elected as MSP for Aberdeen Donside with a majority of 7,175 votes.

Politics and history of the constituency

The area contains Aberdeen Airport (run by BAA),[1] and will arguably benefit from the development of a proposed Aberdeen ring road (Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route). Prior to the 2011 election, the Liberal Democrat candidate (Cllr Gordon Leslie), stood down amid allegations related to prostitution.[2]
