Site of the U.S. Army's oldest active testing area for weapons and munitions. Known as the “Home of Ordnance, ” it was established in October 1917, shortly after the United States entered World War I. Like other proving grounds, Aberdeen Proving Ground is used for testing and development of ordnance material (weaponry and munitions), laboratory research, and training of military personnel.
