Abertillery and District Hospital
Abertillery and District Hospital is a community hospital in Aberbeeg, near Abertillery with approximately 91 full and part-time staff. It is operated by the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board. It was founded in 1922.
It has 52 beds in three ward areas. These are:
- Gilbert Strachen Ward has 18 beds and provides respite care and long-term inpatient care. This ward also provides interim care to patients waiting to move to residential or nursing homes.
- John Dunlop Ward has 16 beds that are managed by the local general practitioners and by the nursing staff where no medical intervention is required
- Cwmnant Ward has 18 beds and provides care for the elderly mentally ill
The hospital was used for scenes in the Doctor Who episode "The Eleventh Hour", the film Skellig, and the third series of Being Human.
