One of the cities of the Decapolis in present day Jordan, not far from Gadara. Conquered by Antiochus III, Alexander Janaeus and Pompey, the city was eventually granted independence. At the time of Tiberius (emperor A. D. 14-37), Lysanias served as tetrarch (Luke 3:1). The site is identified with Tell Abila and Khirbet Umm el-Amad at modern Qweilbeh.
