Automated Business Mail Processing System (ABMPS)

Method of automatically sorting bulk mail by five-digit zip code destination. The system, which is no longer used by the U.S. Postal Service, was a precursor to the nine-digit zip code system, which utilizes an area code on the lower right-hand corner of the reply envelope.
