The antithesis of Functionalism, it was proposed as a purposeless architecture by Walter Pichler and Hans Hollein in the 1960s, the opposite of objectivity (Sachlichkeit). Its forms were to be created by imagination rather than by consideration of need. It was also used to describe Goff's investigations of structure and space.
