Academia De Estudo Psychicos "Cesare Lombroso"

Cesare Lombroso Academy for Psychical Research, founded in Sao Paolo by José de Freitas Tinoco in September 1919. The academy investigated the mediumship of Carlos Mirabelli. In 392 sittings, Mirabelli produced what were considered to be remarkable results as he demonstrated a wide variety of materializations, levitation, psychokinesis, and automatic writing. The academy proclaimed Mirabelli the greatest of all mental and physical mediums, but its 1926 report was called into question by Theodore Besterman, who studied Mirabelli for the American Society for Psychical Research in 1934. The academy continued to exist into the 1930s.
