Academy Award for Best Music

The Academy Award for Original Music Score is presented to the best substantial body of music in the form of dramatic underscoring written specifically for the film by the submitting composer.^[1]

Winners with multiple nominations

Four composers have won Oscars two years in a row:

• Franz Waxman, for 1950's Sunset Boulevard and 1951's A Place in the Sun,
• Andre Previn, for 1958's Gigi and 1959's Porgy and Bess,
• Alan Menken for 1991's Beauty and The Beast and 1992's Aladdin
• Gustavo Santaolalla for 2005's Brokeback Mountain and 2006's Babel.
