Based in Glen Cove, NY, Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. is a worldwide publisher of computer and console games. Acclaim has also published comic books and developed coin-operated arcade games. Founded in 1987, Acclaim was the first independent U.S. company to publish software for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Acclaim Comics publishes X-O Manowar, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and other comic book series, as well as line of crime fiction and science fiction. In 1996 Acclaim Comics reintroduced the Classics Illustrated line that includes the writings of Shakespeare, Dickens, Twain, and Poe. In addition, the Acclaim Comics Young Readers line features storybooks starring popular children's characters from well-known providers of family entertainment, including Disney, Fox and Saban.

After more than fifteen years of publishing games for home computers, consoles, and handhelds, Acclaim closed all of its international offices and officially declared bankruptcy in the U.S. on September 1, 2004. ~ All Game Guide
