Accolade's Comics

  • Platform: Apple II
  • Release Date: 1987

Game Description

The adventures of Steve Keene, Private Spy are the subject of Accolade Comics. A typical day for Steve begins with visiting a spy operation disguised as a "Pet Alterations" store. "I'm sorry, ma'am, your cat won't be ready until Tuesday!" the "owner" tells someone, before giving Steve his mission. By helping him make the right choices, and succeeding in arcade sequences to save him from sharks, robots and other hazards you will help him on his search for a stolen Nobel Prize.

Accolade Comics is more successful than Infocom's similar Infocomics, because it doesn't literally strive to recreate a serious comic book experience on your computer monitor. Instead it adopts the joke of an Accolade-published comic book to present a game centered on viewing panels of endearingly 8-bit artwork. What the game lacks in interactivity -- you spend much of the time swapping disks and waiting for panels to load, more than making any major decisions -- it makes up for in humor and length, shipping on three double-sided disks. ~ John Gorenfeld, All Game Guide
