The presence of acetone or ketone bodies in relatively large amounts in the blood.
1. ketonemia.
2. wasting acetonemia, a disease of recently calved cows characterized by rapid weight loss, indifferent appetite and severe ketonuria which responds well to treatment with parenteral glucose or glucocorticoids. Rarely there are nervous signs of circling, constant licking and chewing, somnolence and frequent, hoarse bellowing. Called also ketosis. See also nervous acetonemia, ketonemia.
