Acid Commercial is a double-CD set has its flaws, including some frequent lo-fi sound on some of the live performances -- but on the other hand, it also captures the rich diversity of the group's sound better than the authorized Fillmore album, and their free intermixing of folk and avant-garde contemporary sounds. The performances date from 1967 thru 1969, mostly from California (plus one from Sweden), including three songs from the Monterey International Pop Festival. There's also a very detailed biography in the booklet which, overall, makes this a far more ambitious and user-friendly package than anything that, as of 2005, Vanguard Records or the Welk Group has done with this band. The repertory includes several renditions of "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag," "Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine," "Rock And Soul Music Parts 1 and 2," "Janis," "Flying High," "Masked Marauder," "The Bomb Song," "Death Song," "Thursday," and "Super Bird." ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
