What is this medicine?

ACIDULATED PHOSPHATE FLUORIDE (uh SIJ uh ley tid  FOS fate  FLOOR ide) provides sodium fluoride. This is a mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay. Do not use this medicine unless your dentist recommends it for you. Ask your dentist for advice, especially if you move to a new area where the amount of fluoride in the water may be different.

This mineral may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•porcelain or ceramic dentures
•an unusual or allergic reaction to fluoride, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
•pregnant or trying to get pregnant
•breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is applied to the teeth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Brush with your normal toothpaste and rinse thoroughly. Apply a ribbon of this medicine to teeth using a toothbrush or mouth tray for at least one minute. Spit out the gel and do not eat, drink or rinse for 30 minutes for best results. Children 6 to 16 years of age should rinse their mouth thoroughly with water after use. DO NOT SWALLOW the dental gel. Do not use more often than directed.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this medicine may be prescribed for children as young as 6 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

What if I miss a dose?

This will not apply if you are taking chloral hydrate before a special procedure. If you are taking chloral hydrate regularly and miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule with the next dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What may interact with this medicine?

Interactions are not expected. Do not use any other dental products without asking your dentist or health care professional.

This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

This product may reduce your risk of dental cavities. Continue to follow proper dental hygiene, such as regular brushing and flossing. See your dentist for regular checkups.

If this gel is accidentally swallowed, contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Also, prolonged daily ingestion can cause abnormal tooth enamel. Report any signs of abnormal tooth color or staining or spotting of the teeth right away.
