Plot

This ten-minute "newsreel" was originally shown as a companion feature to the 7-minute The Arrival of the Lusitania. Unlike the other film, however, Across the Ocean on the Lusitania was filmed from the decks of the great English liner. Several panoramic shots of the Brooklyn Bridge and Navy Yard were included to pad out the footage. Sharp-eyed reviewers noted that these shots must have been taken from other films, inasmuch as the Lusitania always passed by on the Hudson River side of New York City. Clips from Arrival of the Lusitania and Across the Ocean on the Lusitania have since shown up in several documentary films dealing with ultimate destruction of the vessel by a German submarine in 1915. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
