!Action Pact! were a punk rock band, formed in 1981 by guitarist Wild Planet, bassist Dr. Phibes, and drummer Joe Fungus. Joe Fungus also played with the Punk band called, Savage Upsurge. The John from Dead Mans Shadow, was the original singer of the band, when they were known as The Bad Samaritians. He left the band to concentrate on D.M.S. He was replaced by a girl named, George Cheex, who got the job because of "her courage to scream along with the band's songs!"

Both George and Joe were 15 years old and still attending school, at the time the "Heathrow Touchdown" EP came out in October, 1981. The 2 tracks, London Bouncers and All Purpose Action Footwear, got the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. He played the single many times and wanted the band to do their first session, which was aired on February 22nd, 1982.[1] They recorded "People," "Suicide Bag", "Mindless Aggression", "Losers", and "Cowslick Blues".

The response was sufficient to make it on Fall Out Records, which made the band their first signing. Their debut release, the "Suicide Bag" EP, released on July 1982 rocketed to the top of the Punk charts.

Later members included Grimly Fiendish on drums and Thistles on bass, also a guest appearance by their producer Phil Langham on bass under the name Elvin Pelvin.

Other projects

'Wild Planet' (Des Stanley) now manages the rock/metal/hip hop band, Purge, in which his son, Mark Stanley, plays bass guitar.
