A form of virus detection software which monitors the running of a computer and reports any suspicious activities, such as an attempt to alter basic operating system information like a password file . The term is sometimes used to describe software which is used to monitor any unusual activity on a computer system that could indicate a possible intrusion: for example, a day user attempting to log-in after midnight.
