activity space

The space we live in from day to day; that part of action space with which an individual interacts on a daily basis. There seems to be a hierarchy of activity spaces for most people, increasing in spatial extent from family space, to neighbourhood, to economic space, and then to urban space. With movement up the hierarchy, the individual's knowledge of the space becomes less comprehensive. (R. Few, Area 34.) See also action space, mental map.
