Acton Main Line railway station is a National Rail station in Acton in west London.

It is the first National Rail station on the Great Western Main Line out of the terminus at London Paddington. The station is served by local trains operated by First Great Western between Paddington and Greenford. It is in Travelcard Zone 3.[2]

Services

Trains from the station were reduced in 2004 when First Great Western won the franchise from Thames Trains. There are no services into London after 22:10 or westbound after 22:52.

Daily services run about every half hour Monday to Saturday but there are no stopping services on Sundays. It is the only station between Paddington and Heathrow Airport that is not served by the Heathrow Connect service.

The proposed Crossrail link, the new underground rail line across London, will stop at Acton Main Line. Services could include up to eight trains an hour.

History

Acton Main Line was opened by the Great Western Railway. In 1948, it was then operated by the Western Region of British Railways following nationalisation.

When Sectorisation was introduced, the station was served by Network SouthEast until the Privatisation of British Railways in 1993.

All Intercity Trains pass through on the Great Western Main Line.[3]

Development

There have been proposals in 2009 from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham[4] to build a new Crossrail station at Old Oak Common, to the east of Acton Main Line, perhaps even incorporating the terminus of the High Speed Two line, and interchanging with the West London Line. This might threaten the closure of Acton Main Line, but the situation should be clarified when the government announces its High Speed Two plans by the end of 2009.
