any enzyme of sub-subclass EC 2.3.1. Such enzymes transfer acyl groups, forming either esters or amides, by catalysing reactions of the type:
acyl-carrier + reactant = acyl-reactant + carrier.
For example if acyl = acetyl, carrier = CoA, and reactant = choline, the reaction is that of choline acetyltransferase.
