Hüsnümansur
The previous name comes from the Arabic Ḥiṣn Manṣūr, the name of the Manṣūr Castle, from the Arabic
ḥiṣn 'fortified place' or 'fortress', built as a defensive fort by Arabs against the Byzantines in the 7th century; Turkish
hüsnü means 'good'. Adıyaman, which was adopted in 1926, is said to come from
Vadi-i-Leman 'Beautiful Plain'. Locals claim that the name is derived from Yedi Yaman, seven brothers who rebelled against pagans and consequently were killed.
