Ada of Atholl was the daughter of David de Hastings, England, and Forbhlaith of Atholl, Scotland.

She married John de Strathbogie, a descendant of Donnchadh II, Mormaer of Fife. As a result of their union, a new dynasty of Atholl Earls, the Strathbogies, came to be born, starting with their son David de Strathbogie.
