Cooper, Adam (b London, 22 July 1971). British dancer. Studied at the Arts Educational School and at the Royal Ballet School. He joined the Royal Ballet in 1989, promoted to principal in 1994. Although not a purely classical dancer, he performed most of the leading male roles in the repertoire. He created roles in MacMillan's Winter Dreams and The Judas Tree, in Bintley's Tombeaux and Page's Bloodlines, Renard, and Ebony Concerto. In 1995 he was chosen by the choreographer Matthew Bourne to star in a new production of Swan Lake in which Cooper portrayed the Swan. The radical staging enjoyed huge success in the West End, had a run on Broadway and toured internationally. It was filmed for television. In 1997 he left the Royal Ballet and has since choreographed works for Scottish Ballet and the K Ballet in Japan. In 2002 he choreographed On Your Toes. In 2005 he choreographed Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
