Playing career

Cuthbertson was a Manly junior, playing for the Avalon Bulldogs along with the Newport Breakers Rugby Union side. He had been a revelation with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in 2007, scoring 2 tries in 9 games.[1]

Phil Gould recognised Cuthbertson as a talented youngster whilst commentating on Channel 9. He gained the Man of the Match award for his performance against the Wests Tigers.[2] Phil Gould likened the big front-rower's image to that of Manly legend Graham Eadie.

In 2007, Cuthbertson re-signed for three years, tying him to the Brookvale club until 2010.[3]

Cuthbertson credited finding Christianity a year ago from 2007 as the catalyst for his rise from obscurity.[4]

He played in the 2007 NRL grand final defeat to the Melbourne Storm.[5]

In round 12, 2008, Cuthbertson was sent off in the Sea Eagles' match against the Raiders for his high shot on Troy Thompson. Despite this, Manly won the game 31–18. He was suspended for one week for a careless high tackle.[6][7]

He was selected for City in the City vs Country match on 8 May 2009.[8] However, he did not play in the match after withdrawing with injury.[9]

After 2009, Cuthbertson signed a deal with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks for 2010, however he only played 12 games, with the rest played in the NSW Cup. He wasn't retained.

In 2010 the St. George Illawarra Dragons signed Cuthbertson on a 1-year contract to revive his career under supercoach Wayne Bennett. He played 19 games, scoring 2 tries. Hitting career best form, Cuthbertson followed Bennett to the Newcastle Knights and signed a 3-year deal starting with them in 2012, signing the contract on the 26th of October, 2011.[10]
