Henrique grew up in the small rural Ontario town of Burford playing minor hockey for the Burford Coyotes of the OMHA Southern Counties League. He then graduated to the AAA Brantford 99'ers of the Pavilion League where he played until Minor Midget in the 2005-06 season.
In May 2006, Henrique was selected in the 2nd round (24th overall) in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection by the Windsor Spitfires.
He was a member of the Gold Medal Team Ontario U-17 team at the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon in February 2007. On that club, he was a teammate of first round draft selections Steven Stamkos, Alex Pietrangelo, Michael Del Zotto and Cody Hodgson.
On April 11, 2011, Henrique made his NHL debut for the Devils in a game against the Boston Bruins. He scored his first NHL goal on November 3, 2011, against Sergei Bobrovsky of the Philadelphia Flyers.[1] Two nights later, Henrique had two breakaway goals against the Winnipeg Jets, with the second goal being the game winner in overtime. With the absence of center Travis Zajac due to injury, Henrique has been playing on the Devils' top line with wingers Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk. Adam recorded his first NHL fight on January 10, 2012, against the Calgary Flames. He fought Flames captain Jarome Iginla in the first period and went on to record an assist and score a shorthanded goal in the 2nd period to secure the Gordie Howe hat trick. In the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 7 against Florida, Henrique scored 2 goals, 1 being the double overtime winner sending the Devils to the Conference Semifinals. On May 25, 2012, Henrique scored 1:03 into overtime to eliminate the New York Rangers and send the Devils to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals.
