Review

The "Music From The Motion Picture" soundtrack album (as opposed to the "Original Soundtrack" album, which contains the score) is a sampler of R&B songs, many of which are remakes of oldies, such as H-Town's take on The Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing" and a rap version of Sly And The Family Stone's "Family Affair" by Shabba Ranks. None of this is particularly interesting, nor is Tag Team's recasting of its big 1993 hit "Whoomp! (There It Is)" as the movie's theme song (a last-minute entry after an embattled Michael Jackson failed to provide a song). ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
