An antiviral drug that is used for treating chronic hepatitis B infection. It is available as tablets on prescription only.

Side effects:
include vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, headache, and allergic reactions.

Precautions:
adefovir should not be taken by women who are breastfeeding. Liver and kidney function should be monitored regularly during treatment, which should be stopped if there are signs of deteriorating liver function.

Interactions with other drugs:

Tenofovir disoproxil should not be taken with adefovir.
