Adelaide Street, which is a major thoroughfare in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, runs parallel to Queen Street and Ann Street.
Notable buildings and parks along Adelaide Street include Brisbane City Hall, King George Square, ANZAC Square with the Shrine of Remembrance (both of which honour Australia's war dead), ANZAC Square Arcade, Law Courts Complex, Brisbane Square, and Post Office Square.
ANZAC Day parades, with Australian war veterans (and war veterans of allied nations) take place in Adelaide Street, on 25 April every year, and Dawn services are held at the Shrine of Remembance within ANZAC Square at Adelaide Street.[1][2][3] Adelaide Street is featured on television every year on ANZAC Day, 25 April, with the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and the ANZAC Day Parade (when the full parade is telecast live, including the saluting of the veterans by the Queensland Governor near King George Square, next to Brisbane City Hall).[4]
A busy thoroughfare, Adelaide Street is also a well-known area for buses. For information, see the Adelaide Street Bus Mall article. Entrances to King George Square busway station are also accessed from Adelaide Street side of King George Square.
Adelaide Street was extended from George Street to North Quay in 1975 as construction on the Brisbane Administration Centre was underway.[5]
