(naval architecture) A screw propeller with blades that can be rotated around their axes to change the pitch. Also known as controllable-pitch propeller.

A propeller with blades that can be set to a desired pitch on the ground when the propeller is at rest. The pitch of the propeller blades cannot be adjusted in flight. Also known as adjustable-pitch propeller.
