Adnan (Arabic: عدنان‎) is the traditional ancestor of the Adnanite Arabs of northern, central and western Arabia, as opposed to the Qahtani of southern and south eastern Arabia who descend from Qahtan.

Origin

Adnan is the father of the Adnanite Arabs who are the northern Adahoe tribes that occupied Hijaz, Yamama regions as well as most parts of northern Arabia.

Descent from Adnan to Muhammad

According to Islamic tradition, the Islamic prophet Muhammad was descended from Adnan. Tradition records the genealogy from Adnan to Muhammad comprises 21 generations. "The following is the list of chiefs who are said to have ruled the Hejaz and to have been the patrilineal ancestors of Muhammad."[1]
