Adolor’s first approved product in the United States is Entereg, which is indicated to accelerate the time to upper and lower gastrointestinal recovery following partial large or small bowel resection surgery with primary anastomosis. Entereg is available for short-term use in hospitals registered under the Entereg Access Support and Education (E.A.S.E.TM) Program. In collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline, the Company launched Entereg in mid-2008.

The Company’s research and development pipeline includes: two novel delta opioid receptor agonists, currently in mid-stage clinical development in collaboration with Pfizer Inc. for chronic pain; a mu opioid receptor antagonist entering development for chronic opioid bowel dysfunction (OBD); and several opioid and non-opioid discovery programs. Adolor has two lead product candidates in development: Entereg (alvimopan) for the management of the gastrointestinal side effects associated with opioid use; and, Delta opioid receptor agonists for a variety of pain indications. Adolor and GlaxoSmithKline are collaborating in the worldwide development and commercialization of Entereg in multiple indications. The drug is being reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration, and the process is expected to be completed in May 2008.[4] Adolor and Pfizer are collaborating in the worldwide development and commercialization of two Delta agonists for pain.[5] Adolor also has a number of discovery research programs focused on the identification of novel compounds for the treatment of pain.

In December 2011, Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. acquired Adolor Corporation.
