advance start

New subscription that begins with an issue later than the current issue being served; also called preferred start or delayed start. An advance start may be done at the subscriber's request, or at the publisher's convenience as a rate base management tool. Advance starts are frequently assigned to Christmas gift orders, so that they will begin in January and expire during end-of-year renewal promotions. See also back dating.
