Review

Amon Tobin's impressive full-length debut for the London-based Ninebar label followed a series of head-turning 12" releases mixing drum'n'bass arrangements with obvious jazz, hip-hop, and Latin and Brazilian influences. Some of those early tracks make it onto Adventures in Foam, but the best of the album resides in glimpse-giving moments of genre-mingling such as "The Light" and "Northstar," which spin splintering breaks through shards of '70s fusion and '90s ambient and tech similar in eclecticism to Luke Vibert/Plug, Mung, and the less cheeky side of Squarepusher. The album was reissued by Shadow in 1997 on CD and in an abbreviated seven-track two-disc 10" vinyl edition. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide

Ninja Tune reissue

On 20 May 2002, Ninja Tune issued an expanded re-release of the album. In a press release, the label stated:

[The] fact remains that "Adventures In Foam" was a really good record, one that deserved to be heard, so when Ninja were offered an opportunity to re-release it, they jumped at the chance. Not least, because a rather unscrupulous company in the States have been circulating a version of the record with a changed tracklist, different (and unapproved) cover art and mis-titled tracks.[1]

The Ninja Tune editions' tracklists are identical to those of the original Ninebar editions, but the CD comes with a second disc comprising the following tracks:

  1. "The Brazilianaire" – 6:20
  2. "4 or 6" – 5:40
  3. "Mars Brothers" – 5:06
  4. "Popsicle" – 4:37
  5. "The Light" – 5:15
  6. "The Sequel" – 7:52
