AeroGal was established in 1986.
Through a commercial agreement between AeroGal and Synergy Group (Avianca, OceanAir, VIP) the airline will receive new airplanes that will allow the start of new destinations. International destinations as Los Angeles, Milan, Madrid, Lima and Panama are being considered.
The agreement includes code sharing on national routes between AeroGal and VIP (Lago Agrio, Francisco de Orellana, Manta and Portoviejo).
In October 2009, AeroGal announced its merger with the Colombian airline Avianca, and the Salvadoran airline TACA.[2] AeroGal will continue to operate under their own brand but shares its assets with the other airlines.
Avianca currently owns the majority of the airline with more than 81% acquired, which forced Avianca to make a large investment of U.S. $ 7.2 million to strengthen and modernize the company. Despite the purchase by Avianca, AeroGal will continue using its separate identity and will continue to operate in Ecuador.
AeroGal operates services to the following scheduled destinations (as of April 2012):
^1 : This destination is served as an Avianca destination and is sold as an Avianca flight but it is operated by Aerogal.
^2 : This destination is served as a TACA Peru destination and is sold as a TACA Peru flight but it is operated by Aerogal.
The Aerogal fleet includes the following aircraft with an average age of 11.6 years (as of 7 January 2012[update])[3]
