AFL Premiership 2006 is a simulation game for the Playstation 2 based on the AFL. The game was developed by Australian games company IR Gurus and featured all 16 teams playing in the 2006 AFL season.

Gameplay

The game includes all 16 teams, more than 600 AFL players with updated stats and eight major stadiums which include: Melbourne (MCG), Geelong (Skilled Stadium), Docklands (Telstra Dome), Adelaide (AAMI Stadium), Perth (Subiaco Oval), Homebush (Telstra Stadium), Brisbane (Gabba), Sydney (SCG). The game includes career Mode which includes player trading, National AFL Draft and player development. AFL Tribunal is also used with In-Game reports and suspensions. Player development can improve players or newly drafted rookies. Training mode is also included. Commentary with Dennis Cometti, Dermott Brereton, and Christi Malthouse.

Reviews

The game, unlike its predecessors, was less criticized by game reviewers, and was felt to be one the best AFL games made. Its main features included the addition of training mode, revamped career mode as well as more attention paid to gameplay, rather than graphics, with the whole gameplay system being started from scratch.

Sequel

The final AFL premiership game developed by IR Gurus, AFL Premiership 2007 was released in June, 2007
