Agamemnon

1. Greek tragedy by Aeschylus; for the plot see ORESTEIA.

2. Roman tragedy by Seneca the Younger (see SENECA (2) 4). The play shows variation in details from the Agamemnon of Aeschylus. The ghost of Thyestes is introduced urging Aegisthus to the crime, and Aegisthus strengthens a weaker Clytemnestra's resolve. Cassandra is not murdered with Agamemnon but later. Electra appears and contrives the escape of her brother Orestes.
