Agatti Island (occasionally called "Agathy") is a small 7 kilometer long island, situated about 459 kilometers off the Kochi Coast. Its total land area is approximately 2.7 sq km. Its population as per last census is 5667. It is surrounded on all sides by a coral reef.
It is a part of the Lakshadweep Islands, which is the smallest union territory of India. Access by sea requires a 24 hour boat journey, while flying takes only 75 minutes from nearby Cochin. Agatti has the only airport in the Lakshadweep. Indian Airlines operates a 10 seater Dornier to the island, while Kingfisher Airlines has its ATR72 from Cochin.
You can enter the Island only if you have a confirmed place to stay. You are required to obtain Entry Permit from the Lakshadweep Administration for entering or visiting the island. Entry Permit is issued based on your confirmed place of stay. There is only one hotel or resort in Agatti, called Agatti Island Beach Resort (AIBER).
