The early explorers who first visited America are examined in this video, part of the Age of Exploration series. John Verrazano's journey around what is now New York Bay in the 16th century is noted, as well as the travels of Spaniard Hernando DeSoto, who is generally credited by today's historians with discovering the Mississippi River.
