Review

The English don't have the market on swirling atmospheres cornered. Boston quintet Mistle Thrush are best described as the perfect marriage between This Mortal Coil's spacious, chamber quiet-ness and Slowdive's (who Mistle Thrush opened for) churning, billowing waves of sound. Singer Valerie Forgione sings as much as coos, conjuring up an inner turmoil that pairs well with the tickling, far-away knell of the guitars and the dissonant bass. Though it's only five songs, Agus lasts for 33 non-boring minutes of splendor and lovely dalliance, and the production absolutely radiates. Turn down the lights for this one, it's gorgeous. ~ Jack Rabid, Rovi
