1. One of the descendants of Anak who inhabited Hebron when Moses sent out spies to reconnoiter the land (Num 13:22, 28). Ahiman and his brothers, Sheshai and Talmai, were driven out by the Israelites (by Caleb, according to Joshua 15:14; by the men of Judah, according to Judges 1:10) Ahiman and his brothers were killed by Caleb (Josh 14:10-15; 15:14).

2. One of the Levites appointed as gatekeepers in Jerusalem after the return from Babylonian captivity. They were the descendants of gatekeepers previously appointed by David and Samuel "to this trusted office''. They and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, the house of the tabernacle (I Chr 9:17-27).
