Ahluwalia (Punjabi: ਆਹਲੂਵਾਲੀਆ (Gurmukhi) named after Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. He started the Ahluwalia caste.The powerful caste among sikhs.The use of Ahluwalia as a last name has been adopted by his followers.

History and traditions

Ahluwalia is a progressive and highly respected community of Punjab. They trace their origin to the royal family of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The term Ahluwalia came into use after the rise of a resident of the Ahlu or Ahluwal village (located 11 miles S.E. of Lahore. A misldar (commander of the Misl) of the Sikh Empire of Punjab he was the first Ahluwalia. Hence his descendants and followers came to be known as Ahluwalia in urban areas. This community contributed a lot for setting up of Khalsa raj in Punjab.
