Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy replaced his wedding ring with another bearing the colors of his country's flag. The website "GN4Me.com" reports that Helmy was seen on many occasions wearing the black, white and red ring. He began wearing it after the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 which toppled the former regime and in which Helmy and his wife actress Mona Zaki participated. The new ring has an inscription of Mona's name, which impressed the couple's fans. This trend is expected to boom with Egypt's youth, to join the hoards of trends for car stickers, clothes and other items with the Egyptian flag imprinted on them, all as result of the revolution.[1]
Helmy was born in Banha, Egypt. He graduated from the Higher institute of Dramatic Arts in Egypt, from the decoration department[when?]. Ahmed also graduate of the Academy of Arts, High Institute for Theatre Art in 1993.[citation needed]
As an actor and performer, Helmy is notable for his fast-thinking and witty comedy.[citation needed] His career in mainstream Egyptian film began when director Sherif Arafa spotted him on the children's program Leib Eyal (Kids' Play) on the Egyptian Satellite Broadcast[citation needed]. Sherif found in him the comedian actor he was looking for to star his film, Aboud Ala El Hodoud (Aboud at the Frontier). In that film Helmy made his first big screen appearance, co-starring alongside Alaa Waley El Din. Thereafter, he quickly made a jump to leading roles in films such as Omar 2000, El Nazer (The Headmaster), El Selem We Al Tho'ban (Snakes And Ladders).[2]
In 2007, Helmy topped the Egyptian comedian market in number of audience and revenue, mostly due to the success of his movie Keda Reda.
Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmi was chosen as ambassador of the project "Food for Education" launched by the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and "Chipsy" food products company. He confirmed he will visit the kids in schools and follow up with them, though, according to him, the WFP did not give him a work schedule. But he plans to do everything he can to help children.[3]
