Ahmedabad Cantonment is a cantonment town of the city of Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat in India. It serves as a military base and residential establishment. It was established by the British Indian Army in 19th century British India, and taken over by the Indian Army in 1947. The cantonment maintains its own infrastructure of water supply, electricity and is outside the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad's civil administration. It is situated in the Shahibaug area.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Ahmedabad Cantonment had a population of 14,713. Males constitute 60% of the population and females 40%. Ahmedabad Cantonment has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 65% of the males and 35% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
