Aichi (愛知郡 Aichi-gun) is a district located in Aichi, Japan.
As of September 1, 2008, the district had an estimated population of 91,533 and a density of 2,310.0 persons per km². The total area is 39.57 km².[citation needed]
Towns and villages
Nagakute and Tōgō are physically separated by the city of Nisshin.
History
The district was once known as "Ayuchi" (あゆち), and Aichi Prefecture was named after this district because the capital was placed at the (former) town of Nagoya, Aichi District.[citation needed] In the Meiji period, the towns of Nagoya and Atsuta (now Atsuta, Nagoya) formed the city of Nagoya and gradually absorbed the surrounding towns and villages.
- Chronology since World War II
- February 11, 1955 - The village of Hanyama merged into the city of Seto.
- April 5, 1955 - The village of Chotaka merged into Chikusa-ku, Nagoya. The village of Tempaku (later Tempaku-ku) merged into Showa-ku, Nagoya.
- January 1, 1957 - The village of Toyoake gained town status.
- January 1, 1958 - The village of Nisshin gained town status.
- April 1, 1963 - The town of Narumi merged into Midori-ku, Nagoya.
- April 1, 1970 - The village of Tōgō gained town status.
- April 1, 1971 - The village of Nagakute gained town status.
- August 1, 1972 - The town of Toyoake gained city status.
- October 1, 1994 - The town of Nisshin gained city status.
