French: either from the masculine noun aide meaning ‘helper’, ‘assistant’, or the feminine one, aide, meaning ‘help’, ‘assistance’.
FOREBEARS: There is a large family of French Canadians known as Aide dit Créquy, the progenitor of whom came from La Rochelle, France and married in Neuville in 1689; his four sons had produced 13 children before 1730.
